There is a strange natural phenomenon called the ant circle (also called death mill). A few ants start walking in a closed loop, following each other’s scent trail. More ants join in, and the circle grows. They keep running until exhaustion — sometimes until death.

History shows that humans can fall into similar loops. In the USSR, people were told to “unite around the Party” and “fight the enemy.” It looked like progress, but often it was just running in circles until the system collapsed.

Today, the West also seems to mobilize around new “enemies”: climate change, disinformation, authoritarian regimes, global uncertainty. Companies and associations repeat the line: “In unity we are strong.” But the real question is: where is this circle leading?

The difference is that humans can step out. We can build parallel networks, question the slogans, and choose our own path. But only if we notice we’re running in a circle.

What circles do you see around you?
